New Release - THE MONET MURDERS (Art of Murder Book II)
So, remember when I mentioned falling off a mountain (okay, it was just a little mountain, but still) and had to push the release of The Monet Murders back another month because I'd injured my back and was medicated and things were really not going well?
Well, I did finally manage to finish the book and it released yesterday. That's the good news. The bad news is, in my panic to get the file uploaded before the deadline, I somehow (see above: two kinds of prescription pain medications were in play) grabbed the wrong damned file. And because I'd already waited to the last minute, there was no way of updating until the book went live.
Which it did. Missing about 15,000 words. And necessary words, at that.
The correct version is available on Smashwords, Kobo...and shortly Nook and iBooks, but it sounds like it's still going to be another (possibly) 24 hours before the correct edition is live on Amazon. Which means roughly 3000 people got that wrong version.
This is embarrassing. I CANNOT APOLOGIZE ENOUGH. I am sincerely sorry. I know how disappointing it is when you've been waiting and waiting and waiting and then the thing you've been waiting for arrives broken in the box.
(And, by the way, thank you to those of you who have been so very kind and understanding about the mix-up. My first ever mix-up, I want to point out, in all these years and all those books. )
Most of the people who pre-ordered through Amazon will not see this post, or any of my other posts on social media, so...if you should hear someone cursing my name down through the ages, it would be very kind of you to let them know what's happening. If their Kindle account is not set for automatic updates, it's unlikely they'll know to click that Updates Available button.
Anyway.

The book just ends....there's no solving the murder, there's no resolution at all - except for the MCs (and we all knew that was going to happen. This is like half a book. I feel cheated, like Josh just gave up halfway through.

I wish I'd known this was a bridge book between the first and the next one in the series that won't be out until 2018. However, even knowing that I'd probably still have read it. I liked the setup of the mystery and the relationship conflict between Jason and Sam. The only downside is nothing is really resolved by book's end so you're left waiting for the next book in the series.
ETA I saw through social media that the wrong file was uploaded. Even though I have auto updates enabled, the new version didn't download so I contacted customer service who helpfully resolved this issue in less than 2 minutes.
In the complete file, there is a much more satisfying conclusion to the main mystery and a more significant development in Sam and Jason's relationship. There are still threads left open for the next book in the series, but this mystery is complete in and of itself.
A lot of people have given this book a low rating because the version they received left out the last four chapters, but appeared to be complete. This resulted in everyone thinking that the book was a mystery that wasn't solved. Ooops! Anyway, it actually was a SNAFU either on the part of or the author (not sure which) and it has been corrected. If you buy the book now, you should get the correct version, which consists of 24 chapters and ends with the word "excuses."
The book itself is very good and I highly recommend it. The characters, as usual with Josh Lanyon, are well created make for a good read. The situations are believable and the mystery compelling. Someone is killing people connected to the art world and leaving paintings behind done in the style of Monet, but really poorly. The trail leads across the country from LA to upstate New York and throw Jason West and Sam Kennedy together for second set of criminal investigations. I think that if you like crime stories, art, and same sex relationships then you're likely to love this novel.
File error - being corrected
If you purchased this book and downloaded it during the first 48 hours after its release, you should know you have received an improper, incomplete version. The author has been posting warnings about this on social media and working diligently to get the problem corrected.
The correct book is a full novel, wirh a complete story, and does not, as other reviews state, leave all the threads dangling! I hope those reviewers will hear about the error, and come back to download, read, and review the full version once it's been corrected.
